Please join us for a series of special presentations harkening back to a bygone era as Victory Chapel’s Radical Theatrical presents a live 1940’s radio drama featuring our very own big band, acting troop and comedy.

If youwere not one of the approximately 1200 people who attended one of the 40’s night performances put on by 1260 Studios during January and February, do enjoy the following photos. They give a bit of the flavor of the night, although nothing here transmits the ‘wow’ quality punch of the five piece band, or the zest and expertise of the singers.

You may yet get another chance to attend in late March, so keep tuned.

I had the privilege of going to the Philippines recently to preach two

revivals and a Bible conference. It is always a great joy since we

spent 5 years there as missionaries and it’s an opportunity to renew

friendships and see how all the works have grown and matured.

Our fellowship first planted the first worker in the Philippines in 1983.

For the next several years we planted 11 missionaries into a very

fruitful harvest field. As the Filipinos began to respond and were raised

up and discipled, we were very excited at the potential for their nation.

Today there are 200-plus national churches in the Philippines, raising

up workers and planting churches not only in their country but also

internationally. We maintain a close relationship with these pastors

and churches and regularly travel there to encourage the Saints and

challenge the congregations to all that the Lord has called them to.

This was my intent in traveling to the Philippine Islands, to preach

revivals and minister at the Central Visayan Bible Conference.

It was almost 30 hours in transit, over 20 hours in the air, and you lose

a day going from Boston to Manila. I left Wednesday A.M. and arrive

late Thursday night. Then leave Manila Friday morning and fly to Iloilo

City on Panay Island. (The Philippines has over 7000 islands with

about 3000 inhabited.) We started revival Friday night in Passi, Iloilo

which was the very first baby church out of our ministry many years

ago.

The pastor Roel Javier had just gotten saved about 2 weeks before

we left the mission field. His wife Razel, was a very young convert

when she first came into the church. By her own words “she was a

naughty little girl” coming from a very rough background never

knowing her father, and a mother who was a drunkard and drug

addict. What a joy to see them with their four children, serving God

and being used to help lost souls.

Philippines Ministry- 2009

Last summer they had a very powerful typhoon sweep through their

area which caused much destruction. The church building had over 6

feet of water in the sanctuary. They are a resilient people and went

right back into their church when the waters receded. We had a good

revival there, with a number of people saved, some filled with the Holy

Ghost, and many healed of sicknesses and pain. Being a small city in

the provence, we started service at 6:00 P.M. and were heading home

at 7:45 P.M. I ate every night at their home some “pilipino”dish which I

greatly enjoyed.

After 3 days of revival we joined with 24 persons going to the bible

conference in Bacolod City on the island of Negros. The church

members that go to this conference are thrilled to be able to get

together with their family in Christ which are laboring in many different

cities in the western visayas. Getting there is half the fun! We loaded

up a “jeepney” (overloaded) with clothes and bedding ect. and headed

off to the ferry. There we met others who were also going to the

conference. Another jeepney ride and we were in the leadership

church in Bacolod, Negros, ready for the start of the 3rd annual bible

conference.

The conference ran Monday through Friday evening, with morning

seminars Tuesday through Friday. We were blessed by having the

Philippino national leaders in attendance. Pastor Frank Buenaventura

from Davao in the southern Philippines, who oversees over 90

churches, did a great job encouraging and challenging the saints.

Pastor Charlie Carias from Cebu City ministered one morning seminar

and prayed for the Holy Ghost with over 25 being filled. Pastor Boyet

Desepida, the national leader of the Philippines, pastoring in Manila,

ministered to the pastors about their calling. Pastor Carlos Morales

from Norfolk Virginia did a great job preaching each day of the

conference. His sermon & testimony to the youth touched many

hearts. I had the privilege of ministering four times during the week.

hearts. I had the privilege of ministering four times during the week.

We had over 300 attending the morning seminars, and Friday night

over 500 in attendance. The Bacolod congregation planted one new

church in Cadiz City, Negros. This brings their total to 19 baby

churches. One of the highlights of the conference was the Jesus

parade Thursday afternoon. We had great favor and the police

blocked off the streets to accomodate our marching through the

downtown for an hour and a half. We ended the parade with street

preaching in the plaza. One of the joys of this conference was that it

was paid for by the Philippino churches.

I stayed after the conference and preached revival in the Bacolod

church. This church is pastored by Jesse and Maryann Teodoro. This

is a precious couple to us, as both were young teenagers when they

got saved under our ministry in the Iloilo church. Maryann was our

very first convert. The church is very healthy and thereʼs still fruit that

was saved from the revival I preached there two years ago. We saw

many visitors and people saved during the meeting. Sunday,

November 1st is all souls day in the Philippines. Multitudes go and

visit the dead in the cemeteries. We were able to set up and have a

street meeting with the cooperation and protection of the local police.

Approximately 5000 people heard us preaching and testifying of Godʼs

love.

Wednesday morning I flew to Manila and spent some time with Pastor

Boyet. I had the privilege of preaching in his church that night, before

flying home Thursday morning. I left Thursday morning at 9:30 and

arrived in Boston at 9:00 at night, tired but rejoicing in the opportunity

to be involved with these people in this nation. I preached 13 times in

13 days and wouldnʼt have it any other way. Thank God for what Heʼs

doing in the nation of the Philippines.

DEE MOYNIHAN – LESBIAN NO MORE

I spent three years before I became a Christian involved in a lesbian lifestyle. People find this hard to believe because they see me now happily married with three kids! I grew up with a lack of respect for traditional role models – my parents got divorced when I was twelve and so I never wanted to be married or have kids – I just wanted happiness, which I thought would come with loving someone. In high school I was voted Best Looking and Best Smile, which was ironic because inside I had very bad self esteem and constantly suffered from depression. I thought if I was thin enough and pretty enough I would somehow earn people’s love and then I would be happy. Well, that never happened.

After high school I dated many guys, but every relationship crashed within three months. Finally I concluded that guys really were hopeless and awful. My courses in college pushed women’s lib and the gay lifestyle, and so I thought, “Hey, maybe girls are the answer!” I promptly tried it and went on for three years, lonely but determined that lesbianism had to be the answer. So I went to college every day hoping to find some wonderful relationship, but the few brief ones that I did have were terrible. I never even thought about homosexuality being wrong before God because I was not in it for the sex at all – I just wanted love so I thought it was okay. .

Finally I was confronted with the Gospel, and when I found out that I was headed for hell unless I chose Jesus to be in charge of my life, I surrendered to God. Without anyone telling me, I knew that my “lifestyle” was wrong. I cried a lot but finally made the decision to drop the whole lesbian thing. The “gay” way of life was a mindset and spirit which had seemed very exciting at the time, so it was a really big decision to give it all up. But when I did, God super-naturally moved in my life, bringing healing to my heart and removing the depression. He put everything in order the way it was meant to be. I really did feel “born again!”

PALOMA MCLARDY

As a Spanish teen attending a structured Catholic school I craved a life of adventure. So at age eighteen I fled to the hippie scene in London. When punk music hit the scene, my boyfriend was Joe Strummer, head man of The Clash, a leading English punk group. I took on the outrageous and gaudy look of a punk rocker, and learned to play the drums. I performed with two really wild all-girls groups, The Slits and The Raincoats. We had real fights on stage and people loved it. But my heart grew more restless and unsatisfied; I left the music scene and traveled to India with my boyfriend Dave, looking for meaning. We lived in a commune with a man who claimed to be god, but it didn’t take long to realize he wasn’t.

Returning to Spain for the birth of our first child, we realized we had no idea how to be good parents. Looking for answers we tried a mix of Hinduism and Christianity, but our frustration just mounted. Back in England, after the birth of our daughter, I heard that Jesus was a real person, and that by simply praying to him you could have a personal relationship with him. We began to hang out with born-again Christians. One day out walking I opened my Bible and read in Romans 2 that I was a sinner like everyone else and realized how patient God had been with me. I felt both guilty and loved all at once. I repented to God. And when I read in Colossians 2:2-3 that “in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” I realized this is what I had been looking for my whole life. After we gave our lives to Christ, Dave and I got married. We moved to the US in 1988 and have been serving God ever since. I have peace in my life now, and my yearning for adventure and excitement has been filled, because nothing compares to the joy of bringing another person to the salvation and truth I found in Jesus!

TOM CONNORS

Tom Connors

At seventeen years old, I was told who my mother was – a woman I had been told was my aunt. That day my life went to hell. I became angry at the world and at people. I told myself I didn’t need anybody or anything. I became a thief and a drunk, and I was not a pleasant person to be around. Eventually even my marriage fell apart and I didn’t care. .

When I was forty-two I heard the truth about Jesus – that He loved me and died for my sins. I invited Jesus into my life and let Him change me. God has not failed me in sixteen years. My wife and kids love me and I know how to love them for the first time. God has blessed my family and business, but most of all, He has given me peace in my heart and love for other people.

RUTHANNE LAINE -BULIMIC FREED

I was raised in a broken home and I had a lot of anger and rejection. At the age of thirteen I was a little chubby, and when I lost some weight, I got so much attention that I stopped eating and got down to 85 pounds. I became anorexic because for the first time I felt that I had control of something – my weight. By the time I got into high school I had been seeing a psychologist for several years for this eating disorder, and was forced to gain weight in order to be released from his care. I got scared because I thought I was blowing up in weight, and so I started throwing up but hid it from everyone. At first I could control the vomiting, but then it controlled me. I ended up getting into drugs – most people do drugs to get high, I did it because it made me skinny. I became a coke addict, and by the time I was twenty-six my body was broken down from being bulimic for so long. I got severe pneumonia and was admitted to the hospital but I left because I thought I couldn’t pay for it. The doctors told my family not to let me go to sleep because I would drown from the fluid in my lungs. My brother came to pray for me because he thought I was going to die. That’s when it really hit me – I could die and go to hell. He prayed with me and God healed me of pneumonia. I started going to church, and through the preaching and reading the Word of God, I eventually got deliverance from bulimia. At first it got worse – I was throwing up five or six times a day, and I told God I could not live this way the rest of my life. I sought God desperately for healing, and one day God told me I would never throw up again, and that was the end of it. God has totally restored my health. He has become all the things he promised – my healer, my provider, my father. I don’t hate myself anymore, I’m not bitter anymore, and now I’m free to love other people.

GERMAINE CONCEPCION

I grew up in an alcoholic home, which caused me to have anger from my early childhood right on into my teens. The anger turned into violence, stolen cars, drugs, womanizing, alcoholism, and verbal abuse against my family and friends. At the age of eighteen, I decided to sell drugs the rest of my life. I soon became addicted to those very same drugs. When I was twenty-two my friend Spencer was murdered. I was actually the intended victim, and all this made me take a hard look at life and where I was headed. Spencer’s mother was a Christian and she told me that she had forgiven me but that there was someone else who wanted to forgive me–Jesus Christ. I said to God, “If You can change this life, You can have it,” and He did just that! Serving God has been the best experience you could ever ask for in life. Not only am I saved, but over thirty other people have been touched and changed through the testimony of what Jesus can do in one single life

After a crankin’ summer with the play Character Matters (see post about that), the Family Fun Day in the Park and the outreach that invited people to both those things fun things are again happening on the children’s front this fall.

Up until the end of 2009, SUNDAY SCHOOL will be using materials from Answers in Genesis which begin with evolution and creation and focus attention on the 7 C’s of the Bible –

            Creation

            Corruption

            Catastrophe

            Confusion

            Christ

            Cross

            Consummation

If you haven’t seen the beautiful Sunday school rooms you should take a look. A few snapshots are included at the end of this post.

Beginning in January, they will be beginning a new curriculum developed by the Tucson, AZ church called Tenets of Our Faith. These lessons aim to teach children the basic beliefs of the Bible and the Christian life in a way that a child can understand and remember.

There are three levels of Sunday school – pre K & kindergarten, taught by Terri Gordon and Sharon DiPrete

- Grades 1 – 3, taught by Corey Todoroff, Maria Winslow and Lindsay Cross

- Grades 4 – 6, taught by Chip and Lori Ganiear

CHILDREN’S CHURCH this week welcomed 5 year olds, while giving completion certificates and Bibles to the six graduating 12 & 13 year olds. Josh & Debbie Shapiro and Ty & Rita Gomes join Larry & Monica Barros and Teddy & Heidi Henning as leaders for the two age groups in children’s church. Roy Colby leads song service for the children, with slightly older children as musicians. Sunday school themes are re-enforced here with preaching and activities appropriate to the two different age levels.

The Barros’ are also mentoring the Young Servant’s program, in which teens begin to step into ministry positions both in Children’s church and other areas of the church.
